NO REPRESENTATIONS MADE BV BRITAIN QUESTIONS IN THE HOUSE OF COMMONS. POSITION IN TANGIER ZONE. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, April 24. Asked in the House of Commons today whether representations had been made to Italy about the retention in Spain of large forces after the cessation of hostilities, Mr Chamberlain said that none had been made and the British Government trusted that no such representations would be necessary. The Foreign Under-Secretary, Mr R. A. Butler, said that, according to. the Government’s information, recent movements of Spanish troops in southern Spair were the natural consequences of the demobilisation which had taken place and that the Government had neither asked for nor received any explanation from the Spanish Government on the subject. Mr Butler added that the Government considered the maintenance of the present regime in the Tangier international zone as a matter of great importance. ASSURANCE TO FRANCE. SPAIN AND THE AXIS POWERS. LONDON, April 25. The Hendaye correspondent of the “Daily Mail" learns that General Jordana, Spanish Foreign Minister, assured Marshal Petain, French Ambassador in Burgos, that Spain was not linked with the, axis Powers from the standpoint of aggressive action. He said he attached great importance to friendliness with France.
