4 PLANS TAKING SHAPE IN WELLINGTON MEETING OF CATHOLICS. MANY DISTINGUISHED VISITORS COMING. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. The first genera) meeting of the Roman Catholics of Wellington in connection with the National Eucharistic Congress in February was held, on Monday night. An outline of Ihe programme was given by Monsignor Connolly. indicating that it will be the most impressive function ever held by the Catholic Church in this country. Many distinguished visitors from all parts of the world would include a Cardinal-Legate from Rome. Much preliminary work had already been done. Posters, circulars and other publicity matter had already been sent throughout. New Zealand and to other parts of the world. Archbishop O’Shea was now abroad and had done a tremendous amount of work The Centennial had no stronger advocate. Besides a Cardinal-Legate from Rome, Archbishop O'Shea advised that leading members of the hierarchy from England. Ireland and Scotland, and probably from Franco, Germany, Canada and the United States would attend.

Monsignor Connolly sought the meeting’s approval of the following appointments, which wore unanimously and enthusiastically endorsed, as a central executive:- —Secretary, Mr J. J. L Burke; convenors of committees: Reception, the Hon. W. Perry: Procession, Colonel Evatt; School Children, Mr P. D. Hoskin; Transport, Mr P. liazeldon; Accommodation, Mr R. A. Clarke; Social, Mr T. B. Guscott; Historical, Father McGrath; Building and Grounds, Messrs B. F. Kelly and H. Meyer; Publicity. Mr Pat Lawlor. The congress will last for four days. The whole arrangement will be in lune with .the big Eucharistic Congresses held in other parts of the world. The ceremonies and demonstrations will be in the grounds facing St. Patrick’s College, Cambridge Terrace, which are now under reconstruction, and will be considerably enlarged with the taking in of adjoining church property and are estimated to seat ten thousand persons.
