OBITUARY
MRS R. T. TANKERSLEY. Mrs R. T. Tankersley, one of the earliest residents of the district, passed away this morning at 12 Johnston Street, having resided in Masterton and district for eighty years. Born in London in the year 1853, the late Mrs Tankersley came to New Zealand with her parents in 1856 and two years later came to reside at Upper Plain where her father took up land and was engaged in farming until his death. As there was no school in those days, she was educated by her father. She married Mr Tankersley in 1873 and after remaining at Upper Plain for some years, the family removed ■ to Mount Bruce, where Mr Tankersley took up. a bush farm, which he occupied for 30 years. During their stay at Mount Bruce Mrs Tankersley took an active part in community affairs and was at the call of all the sick. Always an active Christian, for years she carried on a Sunday School at Miki Miki, the benefits of which are apparent until this day. Mr and Mrs Tankersley retired to Johnstone Street in 1913 where the family has resided ever since. She was of a quiet, gentle disposition. was a good friend to those in need, and one who remained at' her job until it was done. In Knox Church, of which she had been a member for a lifetime, she was a faithful and diligent worker and will be much missed, especially in missionary and temperance activities. She is survived by two sons, Stephen, of Matahiwi, and Roy, of Carterton, and four daughters, Mrs J. J. Cotter. Martinborough, W. P. Corke, Nelson, and Misses Sarah and Iris Tankersley. Masterton, besides 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren. and one sister. Mrs E. J. Prentice, to whom the sympathy of a wide circle of friends is extended. The funeral will take place tomorrow. leaving the late residence at 3 p.m. for the Masterton Cemetery.
