HOMING PIGEON CLUB

YOUNG BIRD RACES. The Masterton Homing Pigeon Club flew three young bird races recently, flock races from Napier 123 miles, Ohakune 110 miles, and Taumarunui 14,> miles airline. The race from Napier was for tne Bradbury trophy, and 37 birds were liberated in fine weather. The first six placings for club points were: W. J. Miller’s Night Star, 3 hours 34 minutes 1 second, 1; W. Steer’s Blue Scot, 3-34-18, 2; T. Hirst’s Flashlight, 3-35-13, 3; W. J. Miller’s Night Watch, 3-35-54, 4; F. Harding’s Jet Blue, 3-35-58, 5; W. Steer’s Scots Lass, 3-36-30, 6. In the race from Ohakune only four birds reached home on the day, evidently through adverse weather conditions' on the way. The four placings were:—T. Hirst’s Flashlight, 3 hours 32 minutes 3 seconds, 1; W. Steer’s Red Rufus, 3-32-58, 2; F. Harding’s Gay Blue, 3-46-4, 3; C. J. Douglas’s Young Griffo. 4-28-35, 4. The last race of the young bird season was flown from Taumarunui in heavy rain, and with a strong southerly headwind. Only three birds homed on the day, after being on the wing for over six hours, viz.:—C. J. Douglas’s Desert Sun, 1; C. J. Douglas’s Miss Stanhope. 2; C. J. Douglas’s Royal Mystery, 3. Time, 6 hours 14 minutes 23 seconds. The trophy for most points for the young bird season was won by C. J. Douglas, the runner-up being W. Steer.
