The attention of the Home Secretary, Sir Samuel Hoare, was called in the House of Commons some time ago to the wide divergences in the fines imposed for motoring offences by different benches of magistrates, and he promised consideration of the matter. It is understood that he has been in communication with representatives of the metropolitan magistrates and guidance for the purpose of securing an approximately common standard of treatment will be available to the benches in future.
