MEETING OF MASTERTON ASSOCIATION. CONFERENCE REGARDING SHOW DATES. The monthly meeting of the general committee of the Masterton A. and P. Association was held last night, the president, Mr P. R. Welch, being in the chair. Mr H. M. Boddington, secretary of the Wairarapa College Board of' Governors, .advised that the period of office of Mr E. J. Wright on the board had expired by effluxion of time, and that he was eligible for re-election. Mr Boddington asked that arrangements should be made with the Wairarapa Employers’ Association and the Wairarapa Farmers’ Union to call a conference to appoint a representative on the board for the next two years. The president was appointed to represent the association as a conference of the bodies mentioned to nominate a member. The secretary of the Eastern District Council of the' Royal Agricultural Society wrote regarding show dates, 1939-40, to the effect that there was some confusion over the dates advised, as it appeared that in 1940 the autumn shows, commencing with Feilding, should drop back a week, but the Feilding, Woodville, and Pahiatua Associations seemed, to have overlooked this fact. In a later letter,' the secretary advised that it had been decided to convene a meeting of the Eastern Council, and at the same time advised that it appeared that the Pahiatua date, which clashed with the Woodville races, was most unsuitable. No doubt if the Associations affected could get together it might be possible to arrange for the Woodville Racing Club to change its date. It was proposed that a conference of the parties concerned should be held at Palmerston North on May 10 to consider the matter. <
The president (Mr Welch) and secretary (Mr R. H. Williams) were appointed to represent the Association at the proposed conference. “It is quite an important matter, not to alter dates,” said Mr W. F. McLaren, who observed that any alteration would upset the usual sequence of the shows. He considered it imperative that Masterton should adhere, to its present dates. It was decided to write to the Minister of Internal Affairs asking for permission to call the next show the Masterton A. and P. Centennial Show. It was pointed out that stud and purebred sheep were sold on the two days following the show, and this would give overseas visitors and buyers an opportunity of also purchasing stock from this district. The Masterton Show would be the nearest show to Wellington during the progress of the exhibition, and was within easy reach of Wellington. The Association agreed to grant the use of certain gear to the Young Farmers’ Club movement for the stock judging demonstration to be held at the Wairarapa Training Farm next Wednesday and Thursday. Mr W. James said that on Wednesday judging t>y Wairarapa clubs would take place, and on the following day provincial teams for several parts of the North Island would be competing. He expressed the hope that members of the asssociation would make a point of attending. n Messrs T. A. Brown and Don McGregor were appointed delegates to the Royal Society's conference. Consideration of proposed improvements to the ram fair yards was held over until the next meeting. A recommendation was made to the incoming committee that a chairman should be appointed to the ram fan committee and that the president of the Associated Auctioneers should also have a seat on the committee.
