His Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral, Lord Galway, presided at a meeting of the Executive Council at Government House yesterday morning. Last evening his Excellency left Wellington for the north to fulfil a number of engagements. Mr George Searle, of Wellington, who is well known in Masterton, is on a business visit to Dunedin. The death has occurred of Herman Finck, the noted London conductor and composer. He was 67 years of age. The Hon W. Lee Martin, Minister of Agriculture, left Wellington for the South Auckland district by the Limited express last night. At last night’s meeting of the Masterton A. and P. Association a motion of condolence was passed with the relatives of the late Mr J. P. Lett. The Orient shipping line announces that Captain G. G. Thorne, R.D., R.N.R., has been appointed A.D.C. to the King, from March 26 this year. At present he is in command of the Orontes. The Hon P. Fraser, Minister of Education, left Wellington by the Limited express last night for Rakamaunga, near Huntly, where he is to open a new Native school today. He expects to return to Wellington early next week.
There was a representative attendance at the funeral in Masterton on Thursday afternoon of the late Mrs K. D. McKenzie. Many beautiful wreaths were sent by sympathisers and others. The Rev. John Davie officiated. Messrs J. G. Mackay, Alex. McKenzie, Jos. McKenzie and John McKay acted as pall-bearers.
