MR SAVAGE’S PLANS
CURTAILMENT OF VISIT TO AUCKLAND. IN ORDER TO ATTEND DEFENCE CONFERENCE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. As his presence at the final proceedings of the Pacific Defence Conference in Wellington on Wednesday is essention, the Prime Minister, Mr Savage, has found it necessary to curtail his visit to Auckland next week by a day. Mr Savage, who will leave Wellington for Auckland by the Limited Express tomorrow night, had intended to return from the north on Thursday morning. However, he has had to cancel the engagements he had in Auckland for Wednesday, and will arrive back in Wellington that morning. Mr Savage had intended to visit several Auckland factories on Wednesday. “I regret the cancellation very much,” he said last evening, “because I have the most pleasant memories of my former visits to Auckland factories in which 1 saw appreciable evidence of enterprise and manufacturing efficiency. 1 can assure the manufacturers to whose factories my visit must be cancelled that I shall be delighted to inspect their activities in the future.”
Several Auckland factories will be inspected by Mr Savage on Monday. On Tuesday he will attend the Anzac Day ceremonies, including the dawn parade. During the day, he will, on behalf of the New Zealand Government, place a wreath at the Cenotaph in memory of the Dominion’s soldiers who gave their lives for their country.
