DRESSES for the "Modem Miss" have Shrug Shoulders and spool waists!
pARIS shrugged its shoulders—and overnight this casual gesture began to have a social significance. The fashionable world puffed up its shoulders. Then Paris added SPOOL WAISTS—so dubbed because the dresses have broad shoulders and wide hemlines, while the waists between are tiny but wide, like spools, and often cut on the bias to look slimmer. It’s a young folks’ fashion, and “Sandra,” our fashion authority, sends us this and other designs to show what Paris is doing.
A DIRNDL DANCING SKlRT—adds Victorian shrug shoulders, push-up bracelet sleeves, and a tiny, elongated spool waist. It’s in purple crepe, dressed up with a dangling, golden chatelaine. Molyneux did the hat, writes “Sandra,” and it looks like a tambourine —in purple crepe with a jersey band that ties like a scarf in back. The antelope bag has a fluted border.
