WOMEN’S GOLF

NEW ZEALAND FOURSOMES. NARROW IN FINALS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. The New Zealand Ladies’ Golf Union’s autumn foursomes tournament ended on the Hutt links yesterday in a narrow victory for Mrs Lewis (Hutt) and Miss E. White-Parsons (Christchurch), who beat Mrs Norman and Mrs Ashe, the steady Hutt pair, by one up.

The semifinals in the morning were played in drenching rain from the south, and the weathe'r was so cold that players could scarcely feel the grip of their clubs. Heavy rain during Wednesday night had caused the Hutt River to overflow, but the waters had receded yesterday, a fringe of debris near the ninth green showing the mark to which the flood waters had advanced. Declivities which were bone dry on Wednesday were miniature lakes yesterday, and most of the bunkers contained water, causing many penalties. Following are the results of yesterday’s play: — SEMIFINALS. Mrs Norman and Mrs Ashe (Hutt) beat Mrs Slater (Hutt) and Mrs D. Chrisp (Poverty Bay), 1 up. Mrs Lewis (Hutt) and Miss E. White-Parsons (Christchurch) beat Mrs Chapman and Mrs Munden (Hutt) 6 and 4. FINAL. Mrs Lewis and Miss White-Parsons beat Mrs Norman and Mrs Ashe, 1 up.
