AFTER TWENTY YEARS
STAGE STAR RETURNS. Years will seem to have rolled away when you go down the Strand next week and see the names of Charles Whittle billed there, says the London Evening News. This star of the old Tivoli —the original singer of “Let’s All Go Down The Strand” —is to join the company of the show with this name, which opens at the Adelphi on Monday. 'that once familiar “masher” in silk hat, morning coat, carefully creased trousers and patent-leather shoes with white uppers will again direct the audience, by waving his outstretched index finger, how to sing his choruses. For 20 years he has been living in retirement at Bradford, where he was born. He popularised “girl” songs, notably “I Want You to See My Girl.” “I Don’t Care if There’s a Girl There,” “Put Me Among the Girls.” and the ever-fragrnnt “Lassie from Lancashire.”
