FILM STAR INJURED

RUSH OF AUTOGRAPH HUNTERS. Following an injury to Rosemary Lane’s face at the premiere of "Wings of the Navy,” at San Diego recently studios are trying to work out a plan to give stars more protection from overenthusiastic fans without antagonising the fans. As Rosemary and her sister Priscilla were leaving the theatre they were rushed by autograph hunters who lost their heads and hemmed the stars against the wall. A young man stuck his pencil out to Rosemary, and she was jostled forward and the point of the pencil gouged her cheek just below the eye. Only sheer luck saved a very serious eye injury. Police and firemen on duty at the theatre had to form a flying wedge to rescue the stars. Rosemary was unable to work for a week because of the scar on her cheek. A few months back Elizabeth Patterson, character actress, was accidentally knocked down at a premiere and a leg was broken. And, just prior to that. Janet Gaynor was almost torn to pieces by a crowd of fans before . Tyrone Power could rescue her. The very popular stars are now fore-, ed to exit by back doors from theatres. Robert Taylor has been badly handled by several crowds of fans, and now avoids all big assemblies.
