WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION'S ’ ACTIVITIES. FIFTH ANNUAL REPORT. The fifth annual report of the Wairarapa Table Tennis Association states that the past season’s activities commenced in May,, the following clubs being affiliated: Winter Sports Club Parkvale, Catholic Chib, Mauriceville East, Mauriceville West, Kuripuni and Kopuaranga. In the inter-club contests teams from the various clubs were divided into A, B, C, D, and E grades. While it was found that the principle of dividing club members into teams of four worked very well and certainly promoted a keener team spirit, with a corresponding improvement in the standard ol play, it was also found that the standard of play differed considerably in the various clubs. Viewed dispassionately the committee is satisfied that the progress made is real and the game is more firmly entrenched than ever. Winners of the grade championships are: A and B, Winter Sports Club; C, D, and E, Parkvale Club. The committee offers its congratulations to the successful teams. A feature of the season was a further visit of Hungarian players, Messrs Barna and Beliak. Hungary is noted as having the highest standard of players in the world and Wairarapa followers of the gaifie were fortunate in being able to see two world title holders in action. It was encouraging to subsequently observe enthusiastic players endeavouring to model their game on similar lines. The following representative fixtures were played: Hutt Valley, at Lower Hutt, lost, 68 to 10 games; Wanganui, at Masterton, won, 34 to 28 games. The Hutt Valley players were undoubtedly superior but the large margin of games does not give a true indication of the standard of play of Wairarapa. The Wanganui rep fixture was much more evenly contested, the Wairarapa ladies in particular giving a good account* of themselves. WAIRARAPA CHAMPIONSHIPS. The annual clubs’ championships were held on September 24 and 28. Players were keen and very good entries were received. Winners of the various sections are: Men's singles, senior, J. Nicholls, junior Q. McGovern; ladies’ singles, senior, Miss H. Winter, junior, Miss V. Ward; men’s doubles, senior, J. Nicholls and M. Winslade, junior, W. and S. Ward; ladies’ doubles, senior, Mrs Winslade and Miss Winter, junior. Mrs Williams and Miss V. Ward; combined doubles, senior, Miss H. Winter and J. Nicholls, junior, R. Thompson and Miss Ward. In addition to the championships a handicap tourney was run as an additional attraction, the winners being, men's singles, R. Andrews; ladies’ singles, Miss Booth. The committee also ex- i tends its congratulations to the above players. The report is presented for and on behalf of the committee by Mr E. T, Bliss-, president, and Mr W. Day, hon secretary. OPEN TOURNEY. MASTERTON ON SATURDAY. An open table tennis tournament will be held by the Winter Sports Club in the Y.M.C.A. on Saturday night. It is expected that about 40 players from Wellington will be taking part, besides a big representation of Wairarapa competitors. A feature of the evening will be. an exhibition match between E. Hughes. Wellington and North Island champion and a Wellington representative player. Spectators are promised an entertaining evening.
