The Prime Minister (General Hertzog) stated that the Government had officially apologised to Germany for uncomplimentary references made to Herr Hitler by the Mayor of Port Elizabeth at a meeting to raise funds for refugees. The Premier added that -legislation was being introduced shortly tp guard against the disturbance of relations with other States by making such attacks punishable. General Hertzog admitted that the Government had not asked for a German apology for vicious German newspaper attacks on General Smuts. Mr Charles Stallard, -Leader of the Dominion Party, placed the party at the Government’s disposal in the event of a crisis.
