A step in the mechanisation of the Invercargill city reserves department was the testing of an electric hedgecutting machine at Queen’s Park. The policy of the department is to adopt as much machinery as posible to enable the scope of the work to be extended, said Councillor E. J. McLauchlan. He said the department was in touch with firms manufacturing machinery suitable for use in the reserves, and purchases would probably be made in the near future. The hedge-cutting machine was thoroughly tested, and it was estimated that as much work could be done with it in one day and a half as could be done in two weeks by hand.
