GREYTOWN
» .— - MAIN WATER SUPPLY. A SERIOUS POSITION. ("Times-Age” Special.) The average pressure in connection with the Greytown water supply is usually about 75 to 851bs. but the continued dry weather has caused the main , supply to cease. Fortunately a few years ago provision was made for the main to be fed by a big water race, but ■ when the supply is drawn from this scource the pressure is only 35 to 401bs.' This pressure is too low for efficient fire brigade purposes, and is causing the Greytown Brigade grave concern as they have no pumping equipment. FIRE AT MOROA. HOUSE BURNED DOWN. The Greytown Fire Brigade received a call at one o’clock this morning to a fire about a mile past the Greytown dairy factory, on the road to Martinborough. The house concerned was occupied by Mr A. J. Summers and owned by Mr L. Danahay, of Pahautanui. Mr Summers was awakened by the crackling of the fire which had a good hold before being discovered. Mr Summers had difficulty in getting his aged father roused from his sleep and had to take him out of the burning building by the window. As there is no water supply the Fire Brigade were unable to do anything but prevent the fire from spreading to the outbuildings. . Mr and Mrs Summers lost all their furniture and effects.
