Oyster vendors at Bluff and others who have, in time past, visited the oyster wharf to secure odd sacks of oysters, will have to lift them over the gate which gives access to the wharf from the road. This road crosses the railway line and the Harbour Hoard has accepted liability for any accidents which occur at the crossing. The gate is supposed to be locked, although the key was available to those who wanted to reach the wharf with trucks and carts, but these people simply broke the lock on the gate by backing their trucks against the gate, or by some other method which has proved just as efficacious. So in future the gate will be closed, and the key will not be available.
