FINAL DAV AT RANDWICK BRILLIANT WIN FOR DEFAULTER. MALAGIGI SCORES AGAIN. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright SYDNEY. April 16. The final day’s racing at Randwick on Saturday was marked by good fields and excellent spdrt. The course was in good order, despite overnight showers. The New Zealand horses Defaulter and Malagigi again won well. The former’s brilliant performance in leading the field for two miles and winning the A.J.C. Plate of two miles and a quarter from worthy opponents like Spear Chief, Mosaic and Allunga, was acclaimed all over the course.
Malagigi snatched a smart victory in the j’inal Handicap after he had begun badly, and after 'being pocketed at the home turn.
Ajax had no difficulty in accounting for his five opponents in the C. W. Cropper Plate, including Gold Rod. Ajax’s winnings now total £31,100.
The attendance was 33,000, compar l ed with 31,000 Igst year. His trainer. Frank Roberts, told the "Sunday Sun" that Defaulter fulfilled every expectation when he had a runaway victory in the A.J.C. Plate. He emphasised that Defaulter had ample room to stretch out, whereas in his two previous Randwick starts he had been “given a rough spin” by other horses, and indeed had been so severely knocked about that Roberts instructed his rider on Saturday to take Defaulter to the front and stay there. Ellis did that, and at one stage had a five lengths' break on the field, despite which the time was not so fast. Defaulter will retui’n to NeW Zealand next Friday, and will come back to Australia for the spring meetings. Results are: —
