GERMAN DESERTERS

BROUGHT BEFORE COURT IN WELLINGTON. REMANDED IN CUSTODY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Arrested in the city last night, two young German seamen belonging to the steamer Dortmund appeared in the Police Court today. The charge was that, being seamen lawfully engaged in Hamburg, they deserted on April 13. They were Heinz Welling, aged 18, and Wilhelm Ostkaemper, aged 20. The police said that the Dortmund sailed for Sydney yesterday, and obtained a remand until Friday. The men remain in custody.
