FOUND GAGGED & BOUND
MAN IN WANGANUI STREET. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WANGANUI, April 13. At 1.30 a.m. today a man was found gagged and bound in Purnell Street. He stated to the police that he had been robbed of £l3O. Investigations by the police today, however, indicated that there was nothing to substantiate the story of the robbery. When found the man was elaborately tied with neckties on his arms and legs, with a handkerchief and two socks forming a gag in his mouth. The front of his hair was burnt; he alleged that this had been done by his assailant. He described his assailant to the police when first interviewed. The man was sleeping in a tent at the back of a house; after tying himself up he rolled to the back door, where he was discovered by one of the inmates. He was attended by a doctor, and the police sent for.
