Mr W. H. Coltman. inspector for the A. Society, who has been on an official visit to Masterton. returned to Wellington yesterday. Mr L. H. Edwards, the well-known Rugby player, who has for some time been attached to the staff of the Royal New Zealand Air Force in Sockburn, left, today for England, where he will undergo a course of instruction with the Royal Air Force. The tragic end to the Auckland wedding when two girls were drowned in a car accident has a personal interest for Eketahuna and Alfredton as one of the girls, the late Miss Margaret Beale, was a relative of Mr J. R. Berney and the late Mr S. M. George. Miss Beale had trained as a Karitane nurse in New Plymouth and Wanganui and had a very wide circle of friends. Her father was a former mayor of Tauranga. The funeral of the late Mrs H. H. Christensen, of Mt Bruce Road, Masterton, took place yesterday afternoon, there being a large attendance of relatives and friends. The services at the residence and at the Masterton Cemetery were conducted by the Rev F. J. Parker. Wreaths were sent by the Mt Bruce Women’s Institute, Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., and the manager and staff of Messrs Levin and Co., besides many others. Messrs C. L. Welch, N. McLachlan, C. Ammundsen, M. Ammundsen, H. Leighton and N. Wyeth acted as pall-bear-ers. The death occurred in the Waipukurau Hospital on Monday last at the age of 53 years, of Mr Herbert Edward Baucke, of Te Kura, Otane, a former resident of Pahiatua. Born at [Kanieri, Hokitika, the late Mr Herbert Baucke went to the Pahiatua district some 33 years ago, and for some time was engaged in milking for Messrs Gilbert Bros., Mangamutu. He later engaged in farming on his own account at Hukanui, where he remained up -to the time of the War. He went to the War with the 24th Reinforcements, and remained until the end of the war. On his return to New Zealand he took up farming on a soldiers’ settlement at Te Kura, Otane, where he remained up to the time of his death. Mr Baucke is survived by a widow and two daughters (twins), Evelyn and Joan, of Otane, two sisters, Mrs E. Lucas, King Street, Pahiatua and Mrs B. Lucas, of Lepperton, Taranaki, and two brothers, Messrs F. H. Baucke, Rongokokako and L. G. Baucke, Waitara.
