ANGLO-SOVIET RELATIONS
IMPORTANCE ON OUTLOOK' FOR PEACE. Welcoming the visit of Mr R. S. Hudson, Secretary to the Department of Overseas Trade, to Moscow for trade talks, M. Maisky, the Soviet Ambassador to London, emphasised in a recent speech the importance of the improved relations between Britain and the U.S.S.R. He said: “You will find that in the last resort the fate of peace or war in our time depends on the kina of relations which exist between London and Moscow. Therefore every improvement to this end is an important contribution to the cause of general peace.” Britain’s problem, ne continued, was that of exports, while that of the Soviet was internal trade. Consequently the paths of the two countries did not cross, and they were not competitors. This absence of any conflict of interests in the economic and political spheres and the common desire for peace formed a solid basis for the improvement of relations.
