GATES FOR ELEPHANTS

An unusual order being completed at the Wolverhampton works of Bayliss Jones and Bayliss, is for ornamental wrought-iron gates large enough to admit elephants complete with howdahs. The gates have been built for the Maharana of Udaipur, Sir Bhupal Singh, and will stand at the main entrance to his palace. Oriental traditions have been ignored, and the gates have been wrought in the English Renaissance style of the eighteenth century. With an overall height of 7ft the gates have 18ft of head room for the passage of the State elephants.
