GREYTOWN

LEAGUE OF MOTHERS. MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Greytown League of Mothers was held in the Parish Hall on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs Bull presided over a fair attendance of members. A number of apologies were received, members being away on holiday. Mrs Bull asked members to stand in sympathy with relatives of those who had suffered bereavement during the last few weeks. Mrs Bull gave a few interesting details of the Provincial Committee meeting, she had lately attended in Wellington. Items by the choir were much appreciated, as also were two vocal solos by Master Douglas Robinson.. There were two competitions which were won by Mrs Gregor and Douglas Robinson, respectively. Mrs KnelT gave a reading which was appropriate to the League of Mothers. Mrs A. Johnson read the thoughts for the month from the April League Journal. The next meeting will take place on May 9, and is “Father’s Night,” all fathers are asked to attend. The speaker will be Mr R. M. Brasted. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames York, Robinson, •A. D. Burch and Whimp. The meeting closed with the singing of the hymn and National Anthem. Papawai Renovation Committee. At a meeting of the Papawai Renovation Committee held, it was resolved, “That the whole building be demolished and that the Hikurangi Whare Puni be removed to a central site, and a supper room and kitchen be added. Mr H. Evans has been added to the committee. The committee which has the work in hand is: Mr H. Manihera (chairman), Mrs Boyd and A. Turei, secretaries; T. Rewi, H. T. Rees, E. Boyd, trustees, Messrs H. Evans and C. Te Whaiti. Personal. Mr and Mrs E. Graham are leaving Greytown on April 20 to take up residence near Levin. They will be greatly missed in Greytown, and the Wairarapa as a whole. Both Mr and Mrs Graham have taken an active interest in all local affairs. Mrs Graham has been organist at St Luke’s Church, secretary of the Ladies’ Guild and the Mothers’ League and the W.D.F.U. have all had her active interest. Mr Graham is a member of the Greytown Trust, School Committee and R.S.A. Committee. In the musical circle both Mr and Mrs Graham have given their services for numerous functions in various parts of the Wairarapa.
