» TOTARA LODGE OF DRUIDS. FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The fortnightly meeting of Totara Lodge of Druids was held last night, P.A., Bro. A. J. Dew, presiding over a’ ' fair attendance of members. Three members were declared off the sick funds of the lodge and two declared on the funds. A circular was received from the Dominion Council of Friendly Societies in connection with the Social Security Act, 1938, and sickness benefits to Friendly Society members. -A clearance was granted a member to Stonehenge Lodge, Masterton. A candidate was initiated and given a warm welcome. The secretary reported that he had pencilled in the King’s Theatre, Carterton, for the annual ball on May 15 and that Udy’s Orchestra had been engaged. The payment of a lodge death benefit of £l2O on account of a late Brother who resided in Auckland was authorised. Sick pay amounting to £27 15s 4d was passed for payment. Reports were made regarding sick members —Bro. A. Jensen was doing as well as can be expected after an operation at the Masterton Hospital, and Bro. H. Bassett an inmate of Greytown Hospital was making good progress. Other members on sick funds were favourably reported upon. Personal Items. Mr Jas. Donald, of Featherston, is at present in Australia on a business trip and was present at the Sydney Royal Show. , . Mr M. D. McGowan, who is well known in Carterton, where he was a dentist many years ago, was a visitor to the Tauherenikau races. The condition of Mr A. Jensen who underwent an operation at Masterton Hospital at the end of'last week, is reported to be satisfactory. Charges of Drunkenness. Two first offenders appeared before Mr E. T. Beaven, J.P., at the Carterton S M Court yesterday charged with having been ‘drunk.- They were both convicted and discharged. A Heavy Fog. Travellers by motor from Carterton to Hawke's Bay and Feilding on Friday report a very heavy fog on the journey. After leaving Mount Bruce the fog was so dense that even with the lights going it was difficult for motor car drivers to see beyond 50 yards to 100 vards. The fog lasted well into Woodville, and on the Hawke’s Bay side almost to Dannevirke. Women’s Institute Party. A verv successful party vias’' held in the Dalefield Hall last evening under the auspices of the Matarawa-Dale-field Women’s Institute. The hall was taxed to its capacity, the attendance being, perhaps, the largest ever seen in the hall. Besides a dance programme the music for which was supplied by Mrs V. J. Ashton and the Te Tau brothers, of Greytown, a very successful card tourney was also held, the prizes being won as follows: —Ladies: Mrs M. Hodder, 1; Mrs Thornton, 2. Men: Mrs F. O’Keefe (acting), 1; Mr M. Hodder, 2. The consolation prizes were won by Mrs Ticehurst and a lady from Greytown. . . During the evening Miss Jansen, a visitor from Wellington, delighted the audience with a tap dance. Messrs V. J. Ashton and Martin Parker officiated as M.C’s. for the dance. The novelty dances were won as follows: Statue waltz, Mrs K. Townsend and Mr D. Challis; Monte Carlo, Miss Howe and Mr L. Herrick. Miss O. W. Wolters, on behalf of members of the Women’s Institute, thanked all present for the wonderful wav in which they had turned out to make the function the unqualified sue-

cess it was. A feature of the evening was supper provided by the Dalefield-Mata-rawa members of the Womens Institute. •.
