There are four British battleships, one aircraft carrier, six cruisers and several flotillas of destroyers and submarines, as well as numerous auxiliary' vessels, at present scattered between Gibraltar and Malta, in addition to other units based at Gibraltar, Malta and Alexandria. ACTION BY FRANCE COINCIDING WITH BRITISH MEASURES. NORTH AFRICAN GARRISONS REINFORCED. (Received This Day, 11.15 a.m.) PARIS, April 10. France is taking precautions in the Mediterranean, her action coinciding with the British measures. It is believed that France is reinforcing her Syria and North Africa garrisons. INTEGRITY OF GREECE. ITALY’S REPORTED GUARANTEE. Received This Day, 12.20 p.m.) PARIS, April 10. Unconfirmed reports state that further reserves are being called up as a precautionary measures. It is reported that the Greek newspapers publish a statement from Italy guaranteeing Greece’s absolute territorial integrity. DEFENCES MANNED ■ (Received This Day, 10.10 a.m.) TANGIER, April IQ. British naval officers were recalled from weekend leave to Gibraltar. Anti-aircraft coastal defences at Malta were manned, this being officially described as a precautionary measure.
