FIRE ON LAUNCH
MISHAP IN PICTON HARBOUR. TWO PASSENGERS TREATED IN HOSPITAL. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Mrs C. Mack and Miss F. Luke, of Wellington, were discharged from the Picton Hospital yesterday after treatment for shock and burns received when a fire broke out on the Welling-ton-owned auxiliary ketch Mandalay, on which they were cruising in the Sounds with other guests of Dr Spencer, of Wellington. A meal was being prepared on a benzine stove on Sunday evening in Picton Harbour, when the fuel storage tank sprang a leak, spraying a fine jet of petrol over the interior of the cabin. This became ignited and enveloped the cabin in flames. The launch at the time was in motion, and was immediately brought alongside the wharf. As the hand fire extinguishers on beard proved unable to cope with the outbreak, the Picton Fire Brigade was summoned. The cabin was extensively charred, and the hull also was damaged. Miss Luke sustained a burn on a hand, and Mrs Mack suffered shock.
