(Received This Day, 11.15 a.m.) LONDON, April 10. “The Times” Shanghai correspondent says it is officially announced that General Chiang Kai-shek’s longprepared offensive has been launched on all fronts in the hope of wresting the initiative from the Japanese. Guerrilla activities are being intensified behind the Japanese lines. JAPANESE AIR RAIDS CHINESE BOMBER SHOT DOWN. SUPERINTENDENT OF CUSTOMS ASSASSINATED. (Received This Day, 12.55 a.m.) LONDON, April 10. The Japanese, carrying out air raids over a wide area, bombed Nanking and Sian and shot down a heavy Chinese bomber which reached a point 150 miles northward of Shanghai. “The Times” Tientsin correspondent says an unknown Chinese, dressed ip foreign clothes, shot dead Chen Lienshih. Superintendent of Customs. A stray bullet killed Charles Glauser, a Swiss engineer, and a Tartar athlete, was seriously wounded when he tackled the assailant before he escaped.
