QUALITY OF LEATHER

EFFECT OF RESTRICTIONS ON IMPORTS. RESOLUTIONS BY TRADE FEDERATION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The effect of the import' restrictions on the quality of leather was discussed at the annual meeting of the Dominion Federated Boot Trade Association, held in Christchurch, when the following resolution was carried:— “That as now there is a possibility of restriction on the importation of leather, this Federation insists that New Zealand produced leather be brought up to a comparable standard." It was the opinion of the conference that if the export of the best hides were restricted, this would naturally assist tanners to produce a higher standard of leather. The closing of all repair shops on Saturdays was discussed, but it was felt that until Saturday closing became universal it would be in the best interests of the trade to carry on under a six-day week.
