ANNUAL CONFERENCE AT NAPIER. MR W. C. ORANGE ELECTED PRESIDENT. The annual conference and competitions of the Federated Catholic Clubs and Societies of New Zealand (North Island District) were' held in Napier at the weekend. Competitions were held in debating, elocution, oratorical speech, religious questions, impromptu speech, billiards and tennis, and the team securing the most points was awarded the Francis Memorial Shield. Eleven clubs were represented at this year s competitions and the winning team was the Napier Catholic Club, the Masterton Hibernian Society being the runners-up. The North Island District Executive of the Federation was elected for the ensuing year as follows: Patrons, His Grace Archbishop O'Shea, S.M.. Right Rev Dr Brodie. Christchurch. Right Rev Dr Whyte, Dunedin, Right Rev Dr Liston, Auckland; Chaplain, Rev Father N. Moore, Master ton; President. Mr W C. Orange, Masterton; vicepresident, Mr S. Herbert, Masterton, secretary-treasurer, Mr J. F. McDonald, Masterton; life member, Mr A. L. Curry, Christchurch; executive committee, Messrs J. Connors, J. Dwyer, W. Green, D. B. Curry, W. Brady, J. Curry, and Misses M. Diggins and M. Dwyer, ail of Masterton. Hastings was fixed as the venue tor the 1940 conference.
