FACIAL ECZEMA

ABSENCE OF DISEASE SO FAR THIS SEASON. Although it was considered by the Department of Agriculture some weeks ago that there was a possibility of a further outbreak of facial eczema occurring among stock this season, so far it appears that no cases have been reported. Mr W.'J. Gray, Government veterinary surgeon. Masterton, said this morning that the Wairarapa was free of the disease, nor did he know of any elsewhere. In one or two instances there had been some suspicions of the disease in the Wairarapa. but investigations had proved the trouble to be something altogether different. The disease had also been reported from Gisborne and this .had been found to be incorrect. The belief is expressed among the farming community that if reasonable rainfall is experienced and the grass comes away normally no trouble should be caused by -the disease this season.
