PERSONAL

Mr Ferner, S.M., arrived at Christchurch from Greymouth yesterday and entered St. George’s Hospital to undergo an operation. A cablegram reports that the British Consul at Mosul, Mr G. E. A. C. Monck-Mason, who was killed by revolver shots in a demonstration following the death of King Ghazi was buried at Mosul. Flight-Lieutenant John Selby, the elder son of Mr and Mrs J. H. Selby, Aylesbury who has just completed six years’ service in the Royal Air Force, has been promoted to the rank of squadron-leader. He is now stationed in St. Andrews, Scotland. The funeral of the late Mrs S. H. Begbie, which took place on Sunday, was attended by a number of relatives and old friends, many residents of the Mauriceville district being present. The Rev John Davio officiated. The pallbearers were Messrs C. McDonald, J. H. Macdonald, lan Cameron, Percy McKeown, Ivan Begbie and Arch Macdonald.

The death occurred at the Masterton Hospital today of Mr Andrew James Hardie, aged 28 years. The late Mr Hardie, who was born in Christchurch, had been in indifferent health for the past two years. He was a single man and had worked on White Rock and other Wairarapa stations. He is survived by a sister. Miss Hardie, of Masterton. The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving the Chapel of Hyde's Funeral Service at 2 p.m. for the Masterton Cemetery.
