The Independent Labour Party conference at Scarborough resolved that it was the workers’ duty to oppose rearmament for the defence of capitalism, also all tendencies toward national unity, all capitalist alliances, and all tendencies towards Fascism, for which registration, conscription and unity with the capitalist class prepared the way. Mr Fenner Brockway, who moved the resolution, declared that the working class must attempt to secure international action against war and against imperialism. The party passed a vote of confidence in the. chairman, Mr Maxton, and the Parliamentary group by 9 votes to 4.
