FIERCE RESISTANCE
Italian Attack by Air, Sea and Land FIRST FOUR ATTEMPTS REPULSED (Received This Day, 9.0 a.m.) TIRANA, April 7. Italy has invaded Albania, hurling infantry, tanks and aeroplanes against King Zog's soldiers who, although out-numbered, are fiercely resisting. An aerial bombardment, shells from Fascist warships and machinegun bullets marked the Italian offensive. Severe fighting occurred at five Albanian coastal towns, Durazzo. Santiquaranta, Alessio, Sangiovanni di Medua and Valona. Native fighters, famed historically as “Sons of the Eagle,” rushed from fields and workshops to repulse the first four Italian attacks on Durazzo.
