WOOL MARKET

WELLINGTON CHEQUE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The gross proceeds of the wool sold at Wellington at the four sales so far held this season total £1,324,799, compared with £1,328,640 for the corresponding sales of 1937-38, an increase of £95,159. This is due to more wool having been sold this season, as the average prices have been somewhat below those of last season. This season’s proceeds so far are slightly more than one-half of those for the four sales of the 1936-37 season. The official returns for the March sale, compiled by the Wellington Wool Brokers’ Association, are as follows: — Bales offered 24,341 Bales sold 24,025 Bales passed 316 Net weight sold (lb) .... 8,721,625 Gross proceeds £338,580/1/11 Average price a bale .... £l4/1/10 Average price a lb 9.317 d. The gross proceeds of the four sales held at Wellington this season compare as follows with those for the corresponing sales of the two previous seasons. In 1937, owing to the Easter holidays, the usual March sale was postponed till April:—
