SEAMAN DROWNED
IN TIMARU HARBOUR. (By Telegraph—vress Association.) TIMARU, April 5. An able seaman, Edward Knox, aged 30, single, a native of Newcastle-on-Tyne, was drowned in Timaru harbour tonight. Knox, who joined the motor-vessel Port Halifax, which is on her maiden voyage, was seen to fall off the gangway and go down between the ship and the wharf. A sailor off the vessel dived in and swam round but failed to locate Knox. Five other sailors and a Timaru resident also dived in, but their search was also unsuccessful, as was that by police in the pilot launch.
