WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL REPORT. The following is the annual report of the Wairarapa Hockey Association to be presented to the annual meeting at Carterton: —The past season was more than usually interesting on account of the visit of the Indian Hockey Team. The visit was well worth while, demonstrating, as it did, the science of our game when played by experts, and its stimulating influence on our own players. The contest was won by the Indians, but our representatives put up a great fight. Unfortunately, although the game attracted a large crowd, the takings were insufficient to cover expenses, and our guarantors were asked to make some sacrifice. Our Association deeply regrets the loss and heartily thanks the guarantors for their assistance. Our thanks are due to Mr and Mrs W. H. Booth, who splendidly entertained our visitors during their stay. The usual 5-a-side tournament was held on the King’s Birthday, and as a tournament was a splendid success, unfortunately the dance that was given at night was poorly supported, and robbed us of a fair profit. The tournament was'again splendidly supported by Wellington players, and our Assoi ciation heartily thanks them for their ' support. The winners were Senior, Huia Club, Juniors, Karori Club. The usual club competitions were held, and were keenly contested, the winners of the senior contest being the Carterton Club, and the juniors, Wairarapa College. The game for the Bannin Shield for seniors and the Burgess-Cole Cup for juniors was again held, and created considerable interest. The former was won by the Carterton Club and the latter by the Wesley and Wairarapa College, who drew in the final. Our Association heartily congratulate the winners on their success. The Wairarapa Hockey Association again challenged for the Norden Cup. but were unable to get a game, and should meet the holders early this season. A representative game was played against the Bush at Carterton, the match was a thrilling contest and was enjoyed by all, Wairarapa winning by a fair margin. The visitors were entertained after the match. There is some prospect of the Hastwell Club again joining us, if that is the case they are assured of a hearty welcome. There is also a prospect of a- Wairarapa College Old Boys Club — they are also promised a warm welcome. The financial position of the Association is satisfactory, and the Lansdowne grounds continuing. to be an asset of some importance. During the year considerable improvements have been carried out. but an increased revenue has enabled us to meet all calls. Our Association is particularly indebted to our honorary secretary. Mr Stan Moor. The Indian team’s visit created an enormous amount of labour and he responded nobly to the call. Our thanks are due to our honorary auditor, Mr E. R. Rogers, his friendly co-operation and general assistance were much appreciated. We express our thanks to Mr T. Caverhill for his generous financial assistance, to Messrs E. Hale and Sons for gifts of trees, and to a body of workers who are always ready to assist. Mesdames Fisher, Moor, Maloney and Hayne are thanked for their hospitality to delegates during the past season. To the Press we offer our thanks for publicity and friendly co-; operation. To the Hospital Board, and I to the Lansdowne school commitee.our very hearty thanks are offered. I anticipate a particularly successful season. The report is signed by Mr Geo Hayne, President of the Wairarapa Hockey Association.
