BUREAU PETITION GOVERNOR-GENERAL’S REPLY. WILL TAKE NO ACTION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND. April 4. No action is to be taken by his Excellency the Governor-General concerning the petition which the Bureau of Importers forwarded to him asking him to suspend the operation of the Import Control Regulations, 1938, pending their validity being determined by a court of law. The following- letter has now been •received from the official secretary to the Governor-General: — “I am now directed by the Gover-nor-General to. inform you that his Excellency.has consulted the Prime Minister in regard to the suggestion, made in the petition that the regulations are not intra vires and that His Excellency has been informed by the Primp Minister that the. Attorney-General,, who had considered the legal aspect, of the ■ matter before the regulations were submitted to . the Governor-General in Executive Council, adheres to the opinion which he previously expressed that the regulations are intra vires. "His Excellency directs me to add for your information .that in matters of this kind the Goyernpr-General acts oh the advipe of the Prime Minister. In this case, having asked for confirmation of the legal opinion, the GovernorGeneral has no intention, of acting contrary to the advice of the Prime Minister.” Commenting on this communication officers of the bureau .said s it no,w became a question,as .to, whether.the Go-vernor-General Had been rightly or syrongly advised by, his, t’espopsible Ministers. This point would be determined ,whbn the test case w,as heard in the Sti'premd Court in Auckland bn April 24.,
