TEPID SWIMMING BATHS.
(The Editor.)
Sir, —Who wants a crematorium and what has it got to do with a decent swimming bath? Let those people who want a crematorium buy one for themselves. We are interested in the living, and it is time that we had swimming baths worthy of the town. This matter is not new. To my knowledge it has been shelved for 20 years, and that number of years ago suitable baths were regarded as urgently needed. But before the matter is considered by the council at its special meeting, may I suggest that the Borough Engineer pul! a traction engine up alongside the present baths and see what effect it can make on the water. The experiment was tried at Canterbury College recently and was quite successful in raising the temperature. If the experiment is successful it would result in a saving in interest and gas of nearly £lOOO a year and at most will only cost £lO to try. It is. to be remembered that it is not necessary to boil the water in the swimming bath. May I also suggest that those who are in favour of having better baths in Masterton make a point of buttonholing councillors and letting them know that we want, and are entitled to, these swimming baths, whatever the cost. We have waited long enough for them. I am, etc., C. HARRY LETHABY. Masterton, April 5.
