PRICES AT ADDINGTON. KEEN SALE FOR FAT LAMBS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, April 4. A change in values was evident at the weekly stock market in Addington today. Entries were small. There was little change in lamb values. Lambs were mostly nondescript, and sold at low prices, frequently below 5s a head. For forward rape lambs, however, there was a good demand. One pen made 13s lOd and 13s lid; others, not so well forward, 10s to 12s 6d. Medium sold at 7s to 9s, and many others, at about ss. Romney cross ewes did did not sell so freely as last week, though a big consignment that came forward from two leading Chatham Island stations met a fair sale. One line of Chatham, four, six and eight-tooth ewes made .15s 6d, and another 14s 6d. Somq of the better pens of soundmouthed, half and three-quarter-bred ewes met a fair sale. The shortage of good butchers’ lambs produced a keen sale of fat lambs, up to, 7|d a lb being paid for the best medium and lightweight prime sorts. Exporters were active on the 7d schedule, and there was a good, steady sale’for this class at rates slightly below those of last week. The entry of fat lambs totalled about 1500. With the entry reduced from 6200 last week to about 4500 today, the sale, for fat sheep began keenly. Over the first half of the sale competition was keen for prime. sorts, butchers’ wethers being better by Is 6d, and medium by. up to Is. Ewes sold firmly throughout, and were slightly better than a week ago, but as the sale progressed there was an easing for wethers to about the values of last week. Exporters bought light ewes. Extra prime heavy wethers made to 29s Id, prime heavy 22s 6d to 255, prime medium 19s 6d to 225, light to 15s; extra prime heavy ewes to 21s 4d, prime .heavy 17s to 19s 6d, prime medium 12s to 16s, light to 7s 6d. The fat cattle totalled 465. A heavy percentage of unfinished steers and secondary. cows came forward. The sale began slightly better for prime cattle, but there was. little change for others. Values scarcely held over the latter half of the sale, and, on the average, there was little change for the better. Best beef made to 37s a 1001 b, and good quality 34s to 365; prirne heavy steers made £l4 to £l5 2s 6d, prime medium £l2 5s to £l4 ss, ordinary £9 5s to £11,105,. light, to £9; extra prime heifers,to £ll 17s 6d, prime £9 to £lO, medium £6 10s to £8 10s, light to £6 ss; extra prime,, cows to £lO 12s 6d, prime £-7 5s to £8 15s, medium £5 10s to £6 10s>, light to £5 ss. , ~ , , ( The entry of pigs at the beginning of the porker sale was very small, and there was a sharp advance in prices, this advance receded, however, when the pens filled. Choppers scarcely maintained , last week’s rates. Baconers came forward in good numbers, last week’s rates being barely main r tained. Choppers made £2 Ils to £4 18s 6d; porkers, £2 2s 6d to £2 17s fid, an average price a lb of 6?d to 7.’,d; baconers, £2 17s 6d to. £4 6s 6d, an average price a. lb of Gd to 6”d.
