An important function held in Bradford, England, recently, by the Society of Dyers and Colourists, included the presentation of the Perkin Medal of the society to Dr H. Dreyfus, chairman and managing director of British Celanese. Ltd. The medal was presented by Professor F. M. Rowe, head of the Colour Chemistry and Dyeing Department of the University of Leeds. The Perkin Gold Medal was Instituted following the international celebration in 1906 of the jubilee of Perkin’s discovery of the first commercial synthetic dye. mauve. It is awarded in recognition of inventions or work of outstanding merit in tinctorial arts and sciences.
