RAILWAYS MAGAZINE

FEATURES OF APRIL ISSUE. As some relief from the European situation Ken Alexander has a very merry article, “Laugh and the World Laughs With You,” with illustrations by himself. James Cowan gives some very interesting impressions of Samoa in “A Royal Kava-Drinking.” Continuing his special series of features on New Zealand industries, O. N. Gillespie reveals the varied activities of factories where women’s underwear is made. Rosaline Redwood tells the romantic story of “A Grace Darling of New Zealand,” Alice C-omcz, whose heroism cost her her life, as a chill gave her a lingering fatal illness. Ronald Mclntosh recalls incidents of Captain .Cooks visit in “Historic Mercury Bay." Una Auld's “Fragment’s of New Zealand History” are well chosen and brightly served. In “Highways and Byways of the West Coast of the South Island.” Neville Lewers offers alluring glimpses of spectacular scenes. Another excellent travel article is John Magurk’s “Lake Roto-iti and Travers Valley.” The regular features, such as the Women’s Section, original verse, chats on bocks and authors 'and snort, are well maintained. The sixty illustrations include some very good scenic views.
