REGENT THEATRE
“THE CROWD ROARS.” There’s excitement a-plenty in “The Crowd Roars,” the current attraction at the Regent Theatre and which opened to a crowded house on Saturday night. Robert Taylor plays another athletic role, one to which he is particularly well suited. Though the story is essentially a boxing one, there is a refreshing cleanliness about it which lifts it from the ruck of mediocrity to a height unusual in films'"depicting the American prize-ring. Associated, with Taylor are such stars as Frank Morgan, a dissolute father this time; Edward Arnold, a big bookmaker and father of the heroine, Maureen O’Sullivan; William Gargan, once more a decent, honest character in the role of an exchampion of the ring and tutor of the “up and coping” Taylor. The combination of these stars is a ’good one and whether one wants an action story or a vehicle for clever' artistry, “The Crowd Roars” will fill the bill. An outstanding feature of the supporting programme is the first of a new series of modern commentaries, “Passing Parade.” The other supports are also good providing a programme of splendid fare even to the most critical theatre-goer. Saturday’s audience found fun, action, interest and beauty in the films presented.
