"Bohejnia and Moravia belonged to the German Empire for a millenium, but we would not have objected to Czech-independence had she not become an instrument against Germany. We united to suppress the Czechs, who will now have more privileges than the suppressed peoples of these virtuous empires. I served peace by destroying an anti-German instrument.
“It is a propagandist lie to conclude from this that we intend to attack the world. Such an idea is merely promulgated in order to conceal the disappointment felt at the destruction of the plan to prepare attacks against Germany. Germany does riot contemplate attacking foreign countries indiscriminately.
“If British statesmen say that all problems should be discussed by means of a conference, I reply ‘You had 15 years for that and did not do
it.’ We would achieve nothing if we
waited 15 more years to solve problems ' through talking-shop methods. Our methods are better and safer.
“If the world today says that England and France are virtuous and Italy and Germany are evil, the judgment must be left to a superhuman being. Do they think they own a quarter of the world because they were virtuous? We know the virtues whereby they amassed these possessions.
“We want to maintain international economic relations, paying our neighbours honestly. We will not fight anyone who leaves us alone, but we will not accept intimidation. We are sure of ourselves because we are strong. If others rearm we will do the same. I shall continue on this path, and we will proceed along it more rapidly than others.
“The Rome-Berlin axis is the most natural thing in the world. Those who see no ideological differences between England and Russia deserve congratulations. The philosophical community of Italian and German ideals differs from that of Chamberlain’s England and Stalin's Russia, but, should it turn out otherwise, it will prove that Bolshevism and democracy are two forms of the same thing. We are proud of Spain’s liberation from the democratic and Bolshevist oppression, because many young Germans helped to break the red terror there.
“I do not know whether the world will' ultimately become Fascist. I do not believe it will be Nationalist Socialist, but it will free itself of Jewish Bolshevism, which makes international co-operation impossible. A Germany united at home may be unloved but respected abroad. We have given Europe the happiness of peace protected by the German might. No power in the world shall break it.” A translation of Herr Hitler’s speech which was being transmitted by shortwave to America from Zeesen, was suddenly cut off. allegedly owing to a land-line defect. No such mishap has occurred since 1933. The authorities later denied that a land-line was defective, and blamed the stoppage on an operative’s mistake. Most Germans were unaware that Herr Hitler was speaking, because the Press had not disclosed the fact. The speech was not broadcast as a whole, only excerpts from records being given at 7 and 8 p.m. (G.M.T.). Herr Hitler's speech took place after Frau von Hassell, who is the daughter of the wartime Admiral von Tirpitz, had launched the battleship Admiral von Tirpitz. Herr Hitler then boarded the Scharnhorst and promoted Admiral Raeder, Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, to Grand Admiral in recognition of his services.
Herr Hitler inspected the naval port and received the freedom of the city. After his speech he left for Heligoland.
Great Britain Ridiculed “PEACE PROTECTED BY GERMAN MIGHT” By Telegraph—Press Association-Copyright. BERLIN, April 1. Tn his speech in Wilhelmshaven today, Herr Hitler did not denounce the Anglo-German naval agreement, nor did he make any reference to Poland. No sensational announcement was made. He ridiculed rather than scolded Britain. The speech was delivered before 80,000 people in the Rathouse Square. It began at 4.45 p.m. (G.M.T.) and lasted for 62 minutes. The crowd hooted at mention of Britain.
If England no longer adhered to the agreement not to fight Germany the Hasis of the naval agreement vanished, said Herr Hitler. The Nazi rally in Nuremburg next September would be entitled the Rally of Peace, but any persons desiring to rearm could not tire out Germany, who was prepared to exert her utmost powers in a test of strength in which her friends would march with her. “The Allies mistake the Germany of today for the Germany of 1G ydars ago if they believe we will permit a new encirclement,” went on the Fuehrer. If they-try to tell the small Powers that they will get their chestnuts from the fire for them, the small Powers will have sense enough to see which side their bread is buttered on.
