Mr B. Roberts, M.P. for Wairarapa, returned from the South Island on Saturday. The death occurred at Martinborough on Saturday of a well known resident, Mr John Alexander Beveridge, at the age of 77 years. Mr ■ and Mrs S. Cooper, Messrs R. Gorringe and W. Ball, of Masterton, will leave tonight by the Awatea on a holiday visit to Sydney. Mr Graham Donald, son of Mr and Mrs V. E. Donald, of Lansdowne, has joined up with the Royal Air Force and will leave New Zealand for England, by the Rangitane, on’May 4. Mr H. A. Major, formerly of Masterton, Who for the past three years has been on the staff of the Bank of New South Wales in Suva, leaves Wellington today on transfer to Sydney. Mr R. Frater, who has been on the staff of the Pahiatua branch of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile for the last few years, has resigned from the position, and is now residing in Masterton.
Mr F. Roberts, better known as ‘•Freddie" Roberts, half-back of the famous 1905 All Blacks, who is retiring on superannuation after nearly 41 years of service with the Wellington Harbour Board, was presented with a silver tea service and tray by the general manager, Mr A. G. Barnett, on behalf of the senior officers of the various departments at a gathering recently. The Hon. Mr Justice O’Regan, Judge of the Court of Arbitration, who. for several weeks iias been suffering from influenza but who has carried on with the work of the Court to keep faith with the parties who had fixtures before it, has been confined to his bed with acute gastritis since Thursday. He does not expect to be able to resume duty till after the Easter holidays.
