ESCAPE FROM CAMP
PRISONER RECAPTURED.
ADDITIONAL GAOL SENTENCE.

Smart work by the Taihape police led to the capture last night of Frederick Joseph Huddleston, who escaped from the Rangipo Prison' Camp, near Tokaanu, recently. Huddleston arrived at Taihape at 10.30 p.m. after getting a lift in a motor-car from Waiouru and was arrested in a house in Ellis Road, Taihape at 11 p.m. by Constables Chesnutt and Phillips. The fugitive stated when arrested that he had been hiding in the bush at Tongariro since his escape, but came out of hiding on Wednesday, and made for Waiouru. Huddleston appeared before Mr R. M. Watson, S.M., in the Magistrates' Court today, charged with being an incorrigible rogue, in that he escaped from a place of legal conAnement before the expiration of his sentence. Sergeant J. McCrae, who appeared for the police, outlined the circumstances leading to Huddleston’s arrest. Accused was convicted and sentenced to six months’ imprisonment in Mt Eden gaol, to be served at the expiry of his present sentence of three years for false pretences.
