NATIONAL COUNCIL SET UP IN AUSTRALIA

CO-OPERATION BETWEEN STATE AND COMMONWEALTH.

FIRST MEETING BEING HELD TODAY.

It has been decided to set up a national council to secure effective co-opera-tion in respect to a works programmes and classify them in relation to their defence value. This decision was made at the premiers’ conference, after Mr Lyons had addressed the premiers privately in his room, and placed before them the latest news of developments in Europe. The council will comprise the Prime Minister and various Premiers, and the object will be to advise the various governments on the co-ordination of activities of the Commonwealth and States. The first meeting will be held today.
