CHURCH SERVICES
A feature of the Palm Sunday services at St Matthew’s Church on Sunday will be the special singing by the Choir. At the morning service they will render "Fling Wide the Gates,” from Stainer’s “Crucifixion.” In the evening, following a shortened Evensong, "Olivet to Calvary,” by J. H. Maunder, will be sung. “Olivet to Calvary” recalls simply and reverently the scenes which mark the last few days of the Saviour’s life on earth, and some of the reflections suggested thereby. The choir will be under the direction of Mr Wm. C. Mann, and Mr A. ivxiller Hope will preside at the organ. The following will be the soloists: — Mrs J. Moss, Miss Grace Hopkins and Miss Alice Winhall, Messrs Alan Green, G. V. Greer, Archer Hale and L. Dilnot Wales. A quartet will be rendered by Miss Grace Gaudin, Miss Rose Robinson and Messrs Alan Green and Frank Thornton.
The annual children’s procession oi palms will be observed at St Matthew’s Church at 11 a.m. tomorrow. At 7 p.m there is to be a service of renewal foi the C.E.M.S., followed by a rendering of “Olivet to Calvary,” by the choir. Palm Sunday will be celebrated in the Methodist Church on Sunday. The morning preacher will be Mr C. R, Goudge, while at the .evening service the Rev Fred J. Parker will speak on "The Meaning of Palm Sunday.” There will be special Easter music rendered by the choir.
At the Kuripuni Methodist Church tomorrow the preachers will be: At 11 a.m. the Rev Fred J. Parker, and at 7 p.m.. Mr A. Handyside. The Methodist service at Wangaehu at 2.30 p.m. tomorrow will be conducted by the Rev Fred J. Parker.
Mr R. T. Rolston, of Levin, will speak at the Ruhamah Gospel Hall service tomorrow night. His subject will be "The Book With Seven Seals.” The services tomorrow at the Salvation Army will be conducted by Envoy Walker from Invercargill. The Envoy is one of the Army’s veterans who is still active in Christian work, and is a powerful exponent of the gospel message. In the morning service the Envoy will speak, and at night Major Mahaffie will be the speaker, his subject being "The Power of the Cross.” The Army will conduct the final series of open-air gospel services during the summer months tomorrow night in Queen Street commencing at 8 o’clock. A hearty invitation is extended to attend the services.
