SOLWAY RAIN. LOWEST MARCH FALL SINCE 19.11. Mr H. M. Boddington reports that 'rain was measured on 6 days in February. The maximum fall was 20 points on the 19th, the minimum 3 points on the 2nd and 12th. The total for the month was 56 points as compared with 4.95 inches (1938), 3.05 (1937), 9.79 (1936>, 3.85 (1935), 5.47 (1934). The average for 36 years is 2.9 inches. The lowest rainfall measured in February during the past 36 years was 29 points in 1929. The total rainfall for two months (January-February) was 1.14 inches as against 9.62 (1938), 7.42 (1937), 14.36 (1936). 4.60 (1935), 8.68 (1934). average for 36 years, 5.55 inches. The lowest rainfall measured for the two months (January-February) was 81 points in 1908. Rain was measured on 8 days in March, the maximum fall being 35 points on the 11th, and the minimum 1 point on the 13th. The total for the month was 78 points, as compared with 1.51 (1938), 1.13 (1937), 2.77 (1936), 1.17 (1935), 1.32 (1934). The average for 36 years is 2.58 inches. The lowest rainfall measured for March during the past 36 years was 37 points in 1911.
The total rainfall for 3 months, 1.92 inches as against 11.13 (1938), 8.55 (1937), 17.13 (1936), 5.77 (1935). 10.00 (1934), average for 36 years. 8.12 inches. The lowest fall registered for 36 years is 4.23 inches in 1925. BANNOCKBURN RAINFALL. Mr F. T. Day reports that the following is the rainfall record for Bannockburn, Gladstone, for March: —Rain fell on 6 days and the total fall was 46 points. The rainfall measured for the first quarter of 1939 is 1.14 inches, as compared with 8.27 inches for the corresponding period in 1938. Miss A. M. Brown reports as follows for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. today:— Barograph. 30.19: shade temperature, maximum, 71.0; minimum, 41.1; terrestrial. 33.2; sunshine, 10 hours 28 minutes.
General situation: A series of shallow westerly depressions has been crossing the Dominion; pressure has now risen over Tasmania. Forecast: Moderate to strong westerly winds with a change to southerlies probable tomorrow. Weather mainly fair to fine but rather changeable with occasional scattered drizzling rain. Temperatures becoming coolw.
