General Gamelin personally conducted the Viscount Gort (Chief of the Imperial General Staff) and members of the staff on an inspection of the Maginot Line. Many units of the 500,000 troops concentrated in Maginot districts exercised during the afternoon, and were watched by the visiting British officers.
